‘Where Every Door Is Open And Every Gift Unlocked’

Phonics and Reading

We strive to teach all our children to read and to enjoy a variety of texts so that they will become independent, critical, fluent, life-long readers and learners. We believe reading is a vital skill and this belief underpins the huge emphasis we place on the teaching of reading in our school.

Daily phonics lessons take place in Reception and Key Stage One to teach early reading. The phonics programme we follow is called ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised’.

Home reading

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home. There are two types of reading books that your child may bring home. A reading practice book and a sharing book.

Please see the leaflet at the bottom of the page to find out more about supporting your child to read at home.
