Autumn Term

We have lots of exciting work planned this term- all based around our topic "Footsteps from the Past".

We will be visiting The Lion Saltworks and looking at various aspects of the history of our town. From this we will look at how the first world war effcted people in the town and we'll try and find  some of the stories behind those that were involved.

We will be using some of the following texts in our work

"The Secret Garden" - Frances Hodgson Burnett

"The Selfish Giant" Oscar Wilde

"War Game"- Michael Foreman

"Private Peaceful" Michael Morpurgo

"Varmints" Helen Ward

Salt to the Somme

Class Blog

Take a look at our new class blog and spread the never know what you might find out!!

Autumn B

As we have begun to look at how the events of the first world war effected the local salt industry, we have been looking at Wilfred Owen's poem "Dulce et Decorum est".

The children have been looking into the language used and the imagery created. They did a brilliant job reciting the poem together in class so we recorded this an will hopefully upload it to this page as soon as we can.

Who was Wilfred Owen? What can you find out about him?

If you want to find out more about the First World War- click on the link below to go to the Imperial War Museum's First World War page- where you can find out a lot more about it.

We are currently reading Michael Morpurgo's "Private Peaceful" in class- If you can get yourself a copy you can read along with us.
